New SVH Books

I loved the Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High books once upon a time. I owned most of them and regret the fact that I didn't keep them. I also didn't keep all my Baby-Sitters Club books, but that's a different post for a different day.

On Tuesday, new versions of the first two books in the SVH series were released: Double Love and Secrets. The books have the same plot, but they've made changes to appeal to today's teens. This article talks about some of the changes that were made to update the characters' fashion choices.

At first I was surprised that they would make changes to the books and release them again. But, if it gets more teenage girls into reading books that were a rite of passage for most of us, then I'm all for it! Did you read the SVT and SVH books? Do you think it was a good idea to update the books for the new generation of readers?

OMG! Between my friend Lisa (a twin) and I, we owned and read every one of those books! The changes crack me up - but I guess to appeal to today's girls - they have to adapt them. Ironically, we were just talking last night about who still has stuff of theirs from their childhoods - barbie dolls, cabbage patch kids, strawberry shortcakes, etc. Sadly, I don't have any of that left. My friend Melissa has everything and I'm so jealous! I hope I can remember to save things that I think my kids might want to keep in years to come.

I LOVED SVH...and read them far past the "targeted age group." I would go to the library and read all the newest ones. I still have all my Babysitters Club books. I remember making a "Kid Kit" for my own babysitting adventures.

I loved these books, but haven't seen the new ones. I have to agree with you though that the books truly are a right of passage for any teenager! I may have to check them out - and probably feel really old in the meantime! My favorite (not much of a surprise) was Elizabeth, and as long as they don't change her too much, I may actually still enjoy the books. I think that kids these days need to have something like this, and the changes are probably good for them. In fact, there was always such a good lesson in these books that I think young girls need to learn.

Clearly Boys were not invited to read these books! I don't even know what you are talking about but they do sound good!

I read some of those books but not all, I think my sister was more into them. I was into the Baby-sitters club though. I didn't save any of the books either, the only real thing I have left is my barbie dolls. :)
